The Raša is one of the most important rivers on the peninsula. The river arises in Potpićan at the adjoined confluence of small streams from the Učka Mountains. It flows into a partially deep valley to the south and empties into the beautiful Raša Bay. Although the river is only 23 kilometers long, it has an incredible natural ecosystem, and therefore attractive tours are available from your Croatia villas. The Raša winds pass through lush meadows, woods and steep mountainsides. Book a holiday home in this area of Istria and discover these romantic surroundings.
The approach to the estuary is reachable from your accommodation in Pula or Medulin from street 66. In Barban, there is also a serpentine road leading to Raša Valley awaiting your discovery. Before Raša Bridge is a small road to the port of Bršica, on the left side of the valley. From here you have a beautiful view of the mouth of the river. Continue to the fishing village of Trget and Polje and in the harbour, you will be able to find some delicious seafood in the cosy restaurants there. A few kilometers away is the 539 metre mountain of Goli, where you can enjoy a hike before returning to your Croatia holiday homes.
On the right side of the twelve kilometre Raša Bay, just south of the town of Barban is Rakalj. The journey to this town can be made on the main road or by dirt road. In Rakalj there are so many Croatia apartments for a self-catering holiday, and from here, Raša Bay, Ria Raški Zaljev and Kvarner Bay are very easy to reach. Worth visiting in Rakalj is the parish church ‘Nativity of Mary’ with its fascinating tower, the pottery museum and the small ceramic shops. If you are interested in active holidays, you can even take a bike ride two kilometres north of Rakalj to see the excavations of a prehistoric fortress.
If you enjoy exploring, this is a wonderful location for your Croatian beach holiday. With so many towns and villages nearby, you can get a real taste for local culture and discover the real insiders’ knowledge of the area. Southeast of Raša Bay is the municipality of Skitača, which is situated on a steep cliff of 470 metres above sea level. In Skitača there are pretty old houses, a baptismal font made of stone and a monument of the K. k monarchy to visit. You can book Croatia apartments or holiday homes near here so don’t hesitate!
