Liznjan in the west of Istria has an unspoilt, 28 km long coastline, and an attractive, unpolluted sea. It is unsurprising that such clean waters produce such fresh and bountiful seafood. The picturesque little port is busy with fishermen who play the surrounding waters, bringing in the catch of the day, and there are sailing boats seeking a cosy berth. Restaurants serve fresh traditionally prepared seafood dishes, and the local Istrian wines – namely Malvazija and Teran. Liznjan was described in the year 990 by a Greek historian, who highlights, among other things, that the area is infamous for good wine. Even today the region is known for its exceptional wines and is home to many bars and cellars, where there is an excellent quality of produce for guests to buy.
