1. The romantic town of Rovinj
The picturesque town of Rovinj is one of Istria's highlights and is especially worth a visit during the summer months. This small town was once a fishing village with a harbour and today offers a unique combination of modern flair and traditional features. In the car-free centre of Rovinj, you can spend hours strolling through the beautiful alleys. Discover the popular sights in the old town, such as the Church of St. Euphemia and the Franciscan Monastery.
For romantic sunsets, head to the outskirts of town. There you'll find several bars and restaurants perched on the cliffs, offering stunning views of the sea. Rovinj's beautiful beaches are also ideal for water sports.
Festival lovers will also find plenty to enjoy here. Every year, Rovinj hosts several world-famous festivals, such as the Croatian Summer Salsa Festival and the Weekend Media Festival.

2. The cultural capital Pula
Pula is the largest city in Istria and is also known as the cultural capital. The city is known for its impressive architecture dating back to the Roman Empire. The enormous amphitheatre, built by the Romans thousands of years ago, is one of Istria's most popular attractions. The amphitheatre isn't the only thing worth visiting. Culture lovers will also enjoy the Temple of Augustus, the Pula Forum, and the Arch of the Sergii.
The city also offers excellent shopping opportunities. Another highlight is the beautiful view of the Adriatic Sea. Brijuni National Park is also a quick boat ride away .

3. The caves and bays of Poreč
Take a trip to Poreč! Located in the middle of the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, this almost 2,000-year-old town is an important historical and cultural centre with beautiful landscapes and beaches.
Outside of peak season, you can leisurely visit the main attractions, including the famous Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Opposite the old town is the island of Sveti Nikola with its beautiful beaches. Just 12 km from Poreč lies the picturesque town of Višnjan, known for its observatory.

4. The mountain village of Motovun
In the heart of Istria, perched on a hilltop, lies the beautiful town of Motovun. Explore its narrow streets and medieval city walls and enjoy the fantastic views.
In Motovun, you can enjoy traditional Istrian specialties or buy them to take home. Whether it's olive oil or wine you can sample them all here. The highlight of Motovun, however, is undoubtedly the truffles! This famous delicacy can be found in the forests surrounding the town.
The best time to find the most expensive truffle variety, the white truffle, is autumn. However, truffle hunting is also possible in summer. Truffles in summer, however, are not quite as intense in smell and taste. But that doesn't detract from the fun. In the town of Motovun, there are several truffle hunters who would be happy to take you on a truffle hunt. Accompanied by dogs who sniff out and dig up the truffles—a truly unique experience!
If you're not lucky, you can enjoy the most delicious truffle dishes at the Konoba Mondo restaurant.

5. The charming coastal town of Umag
The small port town of Umag is one of the most beautiful towns in Istria and is located in the western part of the region. Tennis players, take note! The Umag ATP tournament has been held here every July since 1990 (officially known as the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag since 2017).
Located on the coast, Umag is the perfect destination for those seeking a mix of relaxation and activity. Umag boasts a charming old town and, like many other towns in Istria, has many Italian influences. The old town still features some Venetian houses , and some sections of the old city walls have also been preserved. The architecture dates back to the Roman Empire.
On the quayside, you'll find charming restaurants and numerous souvenir shops. Here, you'll also find konobe (typical small restaurants, found primarily along the Croatian Adriatic coast, where you can enjoy local dishes). The small square by the waterfront is home to the Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary, with its detached St. Pellegrinus bell tower. Further highlights include the numerous events where you can enjoy the region's finest food and wine.

6. The artist village of Grožnjan
A holiday in Istria often only involves visiting the coast, but the inland also has many attractions. Discover the interior with its green hills, fantastic views, and small villages, such as the enchanting artists' village of Grožnjan.
Grožnjan has fewer than 800 inhabitants and was in danger of being forgotten until artists and musicians discovered and revitalised Grožnjan in the 1960s. Today, Grožnjan is a meeting place for musicians from all over the world. The picturesque village is only small, so it's easy to wander around. There's plenty of time to visit some of the numerous studios and art galleries.

7. The colourful gallery town of Labin
The eastern part of Istria is less frequently visited, but here you'll find one of the most beautiful places in the region. Stroll through the alleys of the beautiful medieval old town of Labin, and you'll come across quaint churches, art galleries, and even a museum! There are no large hotels here, just a few small holiday homes and a few lovely restaurants.
Labin is situated on a hill: Enjoy the enchanting panoramic view of the Kvarner Bay and the islands of Cres and Krk. A 4 km hiking trail takes you to the popular seaside resort of Rabac, where you'll find the most beautiful beaches.
Our Istrian insider tip for active holidaymakers: The Labin Goddess Sentona Hiking Trail between Labin and Rabac (3.7 km, hiking time 1.5 hours). Be enchanted by the laurel and pine trees and enjoy the beautiful nature reserve. The trail leads from Labin to the coast in Rabac, and hikers are always amazed by the waterfalls along the way. Here you will also discover the Sentonina Staza Waterfall, with its turquoise-blue lake – a true gem. A real highlight for your trip in the Labin-Rabac region!

8. Beautiful beaches and lots of nature in Fažana
Fažana is a charming fishing village on the southwest coast of Istria. This charming town will delight you with its proximity to the Brijuni National Park and the historic city of Pula. One of Fažana's main attractions are its stunning beaches, where tourists can enjoy the sun and the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic. One of the most popular beaches in the area is Valbandon. The pebble and concrete beach features a nearby children's playground, making it ideal for families with children.
Fažana is not only a highlight for nature enthusiasts; culture and history buffs will also find a wealth of attractions in the area. The town is home to several historical landmarks, such as the Church of St. Kuzma and Damjan. The cosy streets of the old town invite you to stroll and linger in the many cafés and taverns. Visitors can also explore Brijuni National Park, an archipelago with stunning natural beauty off the coast of Fažana.
