Buzet is known as the ‘City of Truffles’ due to its location in the heart of ‘truffle country’. Every year the town hosts Truffle Festivals to celebrate the area’s natural resource. In fact, the truffles are considered to be as good as Italy’s famous Alba Truffles! History of Buzet
Buzet has a long history, which can be traced whilst staying in one of NOVASOL’s cottages with hot tubs. Following Roman rule, the city was also conquered by the Lombards, then by the Byzantines of the Eastern Roman Empire. After the seventh century, the Croats then dominated the region before being expelled by the Franks in the ninth century. It was then in the fifteenth Century that the Venetian Empire took control of the city and constructed many of the town’s monuments. Buzet is a fantastic base for those wishing to explore picturesque Istria and neighbouring Slovenia. Our Istrian villas, in particular, are near to many more well-preserved medieval towns. Visit the city of Hum, which is the smallest city in the world – it is only 100 metres long, 30 metres wide and home to just 30 people! However, despite its small size there is still plenty to discover. Alternatively, for those looking for the hustle and bustle of a slightly larger city, why not head to our Pula accommodation, which is approximately 1 hour from Buzet? The city is home to an impressive Roman amphitheatre, as well as a busy commercial port.
