Culture in Bavaria

Although many of Bavaria’s towns and cities have made way for modern life, there is an unmistakable pride in tradition all over this region of Germany. Customary dress, folk arts, markets and festivals celebrating Bavaria are a particular joy when staying at your Bavarian apartments or cottages. Bavarians see themselves as quite apart from Germany and German culture for many reasons. They have an individual dialect that even German people find difficult to decipher! Cuisine, styles of dressing (don’t forget your lederhosen or dirndl) and many other ways of life often hark back to customs that have been passed through the ages.

Bavarian forest holidays

Munich

Munich, Bavaria’s capital is a city full of surprising contradictions that draws visitors in time and time again. Revel in Bavarian heritage: outstanding medieval architecture, traditional beer halls, outspoken Oktoberfest and enough museums and monuments to shake a stick at. Or opt to explore the cosmopolitan Munich with its street cafes, modern bars, music events and back streets with a dark underside. However you choose to discover Munich, be sure to take in the real spirit of this city and rent a German apartment right in the middle of it all.

Holiday homes in Germany

Eastern Bavaria

The Bavarian Forest is the heart of eastern Bavaria, whilst the flora and fauna in its surrounding areas leaves no wish unfulfilled. Here the quality of air is unparalleled and nature reigns, creating supreme scenery. Not only blessed with picturesque landscapes, this part of Bavaria has much to offer in terms of interesting and lively cities. Visit the Unesco-protected medieval trading hub of Regensburg with its colourful houses and Gothic churches. Or select a German holiday home or apartment in Passau on the border of Austria, bursting with activity.

Upper Bavaria

This is the heart of Bavaria, the City of Munich is situated in this region and attracts not only for Oktoberfest visitors from all over the world. You don't necessarily need Berlin apartments to enjoy the German city life, but those who want to get away from the big smoke, is also running breathtaking country sheep and enough opportunities to be active in the fresh air. Trips to Lake Starnberg, the Chiemsee or the Ammersee are a way. If you want high up, which offer plenty of challenges. It does not have to be the Zugspitze or the Watzmann, but once you have arrived at top, you will certainly enjoy a breathtaking panorama.

Allgäu and Bavarian Swabia

In the southwest of Bavaria, the areas are Bavarian Swabia and the Allgäu. The Danube flows through the middle of the region, often lined with fairy-tale castles and ancient monasteries, which are fantastic for learning about German history. Spark the imaginations of both young and old with a trip to Ulm, or the attractive town of Ausburg, which has become famous for its "Augsburger Puppenkiste" - literally, the Augsburg Puppet Box - a traditional marionette show. Alternatively visit the Allgäu Alps for a truly magical experience in nature. Winter sports take pride of place here, but you can enjoy hiking, climbing and other outdoor activities in the splendour of the Great Outdoors.

Franconia

In the 19th century, travel writer Karl Immermann stated that Franconia was "a magic cabinet with new drawers", and this is how it still appears today. There are a total of nine natural parks, which are part of the varied hilly landscape of the Mittelgebirgsland. How about a cycling trip on the Karpfenradweg, a hike on the Celtic trail or an excursion to the Franconian wine country? There are also cities like Nuremberg, known for its Christmas markets, or a trip to the university town of WĂĽrzburg or the medieval town of Rothenburg. And all that you can easily reach from your holiday home or your holiday apartment in Bavaria.
