The Costa de Almeria is a real gem for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in the sun. Surrounded by the sparkling Mediterranean, undeveloped coastline and landscapes of outstanding beauty, this stretch of beaches and charming towns is the perfect place to rent villas and apartments in Spain. Located in Andalusia, to the west of the Costa Tropical, the Costa de Almeria is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain. The area has plenty of activities for families, couples and groups of friends to get their teeth into, as well as fabulous restaurants, beaches, and, of course, plenty of sunshine. Browse our Spanish villas on the Costa de Almeria today and discover this paradise for yourself!
Everywhere on the Costa de Almeria you will find beautiful beaches, ranging from the popular beaches with plenty of tourist amenities, to picturesque secret coves visited only by those in the know. We have listed just a few of our favourites below, each a fantastic day out while self-catering in Spain.
Playa el Palmeral: This city beach is located in the Almeria Bay and can be reached on foot from the city centre. On the beach promenade, you will find plenty of ice cream shops, cafes and restaurants where you can sample some delicious Spanish cuisine. There is also a playground and a volleyball court as well as parking adjacent to the beach.
Playa Cueva del Lobo: This beautiful beach sits under several rocky hills and contains fine sand and many small caves. There are not many people who know the beach, so here you have the opportunity for real privacy. You can park on the road above the beach, but note that there are many steps down to the water.
El Toyo: A delightful sandy beach accessed via wooden walkways through a lush garden area. The beach is rarely busy compared to most in Andalusia, so you will have plenty of room in both the car park and on the sand.
The 500-square-kilometer natural park of "Cabo de Gata" is definitely worth a visit during your stay in one of our apartments or villas to rent in Spain. The unique geography, created by volcanoes, is perfect for all kinds of outdoor activities. The road through the park leads past dramatic and amazing rock formations with deep gorges and dry plains. There are marked paths everywhere and you can find your very own unspoiled bay on the remote beaches to enjoy a refreshing dip on the warmest of days. Families also have the opportunity to explore a true desert in the "Tabernas Desert", which was once a seabed. The area has been used as a backdrop in many cowboy films, and now there are guided tours for film-lovers on foot, by bike, horseback or camel!
The major city on this stretch of coast, Almeria, is a wonderful place to explore on self-catering holidays. Go for a walk along La Rambla de Belén, the city’s wide central avenue, and feel the vibrant life of the busy outdoor cafes. Another great activity is the tourist train up to the "Bario de la Chanca" cave area, where families still live in some of the colourful caves. In the "Air de Almeria" neighbourhood, the Arab influence is clear, and here you can experience a real Arabic souk and an ancient Arab bath. Also, do not miss a visit to the Alcazaba Castle while renting villas in Andalusia. Located high above the city centre, this huge walled fortress has the task of protecting Almeria’s inhabitants, and is the second largest Moorish fortress in Spain; only the Alhambra is larger.
