Mijas has had a long and tumultuous history which is reflected in the layout of the town and by the monuments found in La Cala de Mijas. The strategic position of Mijas, located on the side of a hill a few kilometres from the sea, was considered crucial by the Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Catholic Monarchs, all of whom conquered the small town and left their influence on it in one way or another. Today, Mijas is a popular tourist spot, with people coming from Spanish villas across Andalusia to take in the charm of its white washed houses and for the views it offers down towards the Costa del Sol. That’s not to forget the delicious food which is on offer in the town’s small restaurants.

Towering over the town of Mijas is the Sierra de Mijas mountain range. This group of mountains separates the Costa del Sol from inland Andalusia.
