Val Senales became world famous thanks to a sudden archaeological sensational discovery in 1991. In between the mountain passes of Tisenjoch above the Val Senales glacier, the mummy Ötzi was found. The archaeological museum with an outdoor area offers a clear insight into the lifestyle of the Neolithic people that were located in Val Senales in the Oetztal Alps about 5300 years ago. Arriving at the Schnalstal is truly spectacular; it comes uphill in a beautiful landscape. At the beginning of the valley above the Naturns Juval is a medieval castle first documented in 1278. The mountaineer Reinhold Messner first discovered in the castle in 1983, beginning the process of renovating the building as residence and museum. The exhibition is dedicated to the Magic Mountain and is part of the six-part project Messner Mountain Museum.
