Villas in Catalonia
Catalonia is an autonomous region in north-eastern Spain with its own language and flag. With the mild climate, the 580-kilometre long shoreline and the mountainous hinterland, there is something to suit every taste in this location whether it’s Costa Brava villas or country cottages. Catalonia has its own distinct personality, and each of its four provinces seems to add to the unique flavour of the region. From the shores of the Costa Brava to the imposing Pyrenees mountains; from small, hilltop villages and castles to the cosmopolitan, artistic powerhouse that is the city of Barcelona, you will not find a better location for Spanish villas. Our villas in Catalonia offer you and your family a great holiday!
Adventure holidays in villas in Spain
Our villas in Catalonia offer a wide range of activities. For the thrill of activities in the grips of nature, head north in Catalonia to the Pyrenees mountains. There amazing 3000-metre peaks rise above you. Hiking trails allow you to follow a marked ascent past medieval villages, steep rock faces and some utterly glorious views. This, of course, is recommended for those who enjoy an active self-catering holiday. Rock climbing, trekking, rafting, kayaking, canyoning and mountain biking are just a few of the many and varied activities available in Catalonia near our Spanish villas in mainland Spain. Back near the coast, there are also a host of water sports for you to try.
Catalonian cuisine – Spain villas
Being so beautifully positioned close to both the sea and the mountains, Catalonian cuisine is a heady mixture of simple but delicious seafood dishes, bursting with flavour, and meat dishes like lamb and goat stew. Although you can self cater in our villas in Catalonia we recommend going out to try the area's amazing cuisine.Tapas dishes are eaten far and wide in Spain, but some of these small plates are truer to Catalan cuisine than Spanish in general. Of all the things to eat in Spain, you must try their toasted bread with tomato and olive oil, Catalan paella made with squid ink, spicy Botifarra sausage and the well-known desert, Crema Catalana. If you think yourself a gastronome, you even have the freedom to put your Catalonian cooking skills to the test in the kitchen of Barcelona apartments.
Culture and Costa Brava villas
Although the draw to holidays on the Costa Brava is predominantly due to the stunning beaches, culture vultures will find several artistic and historical treasures to keep them entertained on self-catering holidays. Medieval villages, Dalí's surreal 'theatre-museum' in Figueres, Romanesque monasteries, archaeological ruins, galleries and pretty much everything in Barcelona can be reached easily from our villas. Spain has had many famous artists, none more so than Picasso whose work can be found in the Picasso Museum, with about 3,500 original Pablo Picasso pieces; the Joan Miro Foundation and the Catalan National Art Museum.
Family holidays in Catalonia
Our villas in Catalonia is an excellent retreat for families, couples, solo travellers and groups of friends alike. The northern region makes a fun change from well-trodden Andalusia and Murcia, and with plenty of things to do in Catalonia, there is something to please everyone – even the kids! Self-catering gives you many more possibilities than if you stay in a hotel, and you will also have a safe and cosy base for the whole family where you can relax and enjoy your holiday at your own pace. Our selection of holiday rentals in Catalonia is broad, and there is plenty to suit you and your family.
Sport in Catalonia
Barcelona is a very sporty city. Holiday homes in Catalonia give holidaymakers the chance to participate in the sports fervour of the region, attending football games as well as regional sporting events where Catalonia’s teams face off against their bitter rivals from neighbouring Valencia and other regions. One of the most popular sites in the city is FC Barcelona’s famous stadium – Camp Nou. This huge structure seats almost 100,000 people when full, and has an accompanying museum full with twinkling trophies. This is a fun trip on family holidays, and rewards kids for their patience with old churches and historical sites. Active families can also go snorkelling in the colourful waters, take a boat trip or go kayaking off the coast, have a day out at one of Catalonia’s many water parks, participate in traditional dancing, or just splash around at the pool of villas in Spain.
Festivals and traditions
If you manage to time your stay in our villas in Catalonia just right, you may be able to witness some of Catalonia’s famous festivals. One such festival occurs in the spring on Sant Jordi (Saint George’s Day) when men and women exchange presents – men give roses to the women and receive books in return. People spill onto the city centre streets while conducting this exchange, and the scene is great to witness, even if you don’t participate. The region also has some lively carnivals that are worth vising from Barcelona apartments and Spanish villas in the region. The city of Sitges, slightly south of Barcelona, is famous for its carnival which begins on Fat Thursday each year.
Massage your mind by attending abundant cultural offerings of music, art, and architecture while self-catering. Try day trips into Barcelona, Catalonia's capital, which is a true metropolis. Among its outstanding sights are the Gothic Quarter and the works of architect Antoni Gaudi. Our villas in Catalonia are located near the best Barcelona has to fofer. The city has many great places for a wander including Las Ramblas, a 2 km long boulevard teaming with all types of people, small flower and vegetable stands, street-theatres, galleries, and cafes. When you rent Barcelona apartments you cannot help but awaken your senses with the experience of new surroundings and adventures. Restore your body and soul along the Costa Brava, a coastline famed for its great natural beauty, steep cliffs and romantic small coves.
