Where to stay in one of our Provence holiday rentals

Historic Provence includes the areas of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Var, Vaucluse and Bouches-du-Rhône, and the historic capital Aix-en-Provence. The Alpes-Maritimes area located in the south-eastern corner of Provence is home to well-known cities such as Nice, Antibes and Cannes.

The Vaucluse region, in north-western Provence, offers plenty of variety from the famous mountain of Mont Ventoux to the historic city of Avignon, with its Gothic buildings, delicious restaurants, atmospheric cafes and theatres. Visit some of France's most beautiful villages in the Luberon Regional Nature Park, and discover the area of Drome-Provence, where the landscape is synonymous with fragrant lavender fields.

The south-western area of Provence enables families to enjoy some of France’s most intriguing towns and cities. Important cities in the area are Arles, a Roman city and home of Van Gogh and Marseille, the second largest city in France with a busy port.Search our selection of over 900 hand-picked villas and apartments to find the perfect fit for you, whether that is with a swimming pool, whirlpool or games area.

Things to see and do in our villas in Provence

From the rolling fields of the Rhône valley to the mountainous terrain of the Massif des Maures and Alpes Maritimes, this area offers ample opportunity to enjoy a huge range of outdoor pursuits. There are several nature parks, including the Mercantour National Park, where you can see plenty of rare flora and fauna. Whether you prefer gentle strolls through beautiful scenery, or exhilarating climbing in stunning valleys and gorges – there is something for everyone.

Those in search of culture and French history will not be disappointed. The region has many monuments from the Roman, Romanesque and Gothic periods, as well as several historic towns and fortifications, churches and palaces – some of which have earned a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List. One of the lesser-known World Heritage sites is the picturesque town of Briançon, which is one of the highest towns in the world. A mountain drive will reward you with a town with impressive fortifications and charming narrow streets. The town is one of 12 Fortifications of Vauban which are dotted across France from Normandy to Aquitaine.

Provence cuisine

Food and drink in Provence reflects the warm climate and often arid landscape which is covered in olive groves and vineyards. Olive oil is grown in abundance here, and is used in almost all major dishes from fried sardines to comforting ratatouille – which originated in the city of Nice. The wine here is also fantastic, with famous vineyards producing the most delicious rosés in all of France. Make sure to try traditional French cuisine in family-run restaurants across the region, or, pick up some fresh ingredients from one of the many local markets and cook a delicious meal in the comfort of your Provence villa.
