Villas in Bonifacio

This modern city and its fortress, founded by Count Bonifacio di Lucca from Tuscany, was conquered by the Genoese, as was much of the island, and this can still be seen throughout the city today. This wealthy city with its strategic position has constantly been contested. None shows this better than a visit to the Escalier du Roi d'Aragon, a steep and narrow rock staircase which leads down to the sea, built by the Spanish for easier access with which to attack the city. Leading away from the port, is the upper town with its citadel leading into the old town. A visit to the 14th century Gothic church of Saint Dominique is worth a visit. With its coastal position, the area has some interesting caves that can be discovered by taking a boat from the port. Search our selection of villas in Bonifacio for a break from the ordinary.
