The Kotor Riviera is undoubtedly the most popular holiday destination in Montenegro. The beautiful bay and the surrounding countryside will enamour you – here you can rest assured you will have beautiful holiday scenery. Montenegro is a lovely destination with an exciting history, warm swimming water and lots of nature and cultural activities. Rent your villas and apartments in Montenegro for the chance to unlock the secrets of this bountiful destination.
The old town of Kotor has been on UNESCO's list of the world's cultural heritage since 1979, which tells everything about how amazing a city it is. Rent your Montenegro apartments in the old town and you can look forward to many beautiful and well-preserved monuments, churches, cathedrals, palaces and museums. The narrow streets complete it all with a very charming atmosphere. As in many other southern European cities, there are many squares in Kotor, where you can shop, chat over a cup of coffee or just relax and enjoy the cosy atmosphere. It is also at the square where most cafes and restaurants are located. Here you will find local dishes, international dishes and, of course, a large selection of seafood and other specialties of Montenegrin cuisine.
At Kotor you can visit the ancient fortresses – Sveti Ivan or San Djovani, as the locals call the fortress. The walk up to the fortress starts on the eastern side of the old town. The fortress is 280 metres above sea level, and you mustn’t forget your camera, because it is here at the top that you will be able to take the most beautiful pictures of the city and the bay. At the port of Kotor you can learn about history of Montenegro if you visit the maritime museum. Here, the story of Kotor is described as a garden city, with everything from shipbuilding to killer pirates.
You can also go on one of two trips to two beautiful islands in the bay – Gospa od Skrpjela and Sveti Djordje. The island of Gospa od Skrpjela is artificial and, according to the stories, was made by sailors from Perast and Kotor, who on their large sailboats carried the big stones. On the island there is a church which, according to legend, is built by Perast fishermen who, following a shipwreck near the island, found an icon of the Virgin Mary and Jesus on a rock, where a church was erected in 1630. The island of Sveti Djordje is called "The Dead Captain's Island", and according to legend, a French soldier hid his beloved's house in Perast when there was an attack on the island. You can book various trips by boat to the islands once you rent your Montenegro villas, both at the tourist office and directly on the docks by the boats. Alternatively, take a half hour drive to Budva and explore the Budva Riviera from your holiday homes.
