Beacons of history and legend

Enjoy the island's vibrant history while staying in our villas in Paphos. Let yourself be enthralled by a landscape where Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, once roamed. Swim in the sea between the rocks that are known as "Petra tou Romiou" and where Aphrodite once emerged from the waves. Paphos, with its idyllic harbor and medieval fort, has become a cosmopolitan holiday destination surrounded by spectacular landscapes and historic sites. In ancient times for centuries capital of the island, its archaeological heritage is today so significant that the entire city was included in the UNESCO catalogue of world cultural heritage. Visiting the birthplace of mythical and legendary figures is definitely one of the best things to do in Cyprus.

Culture in Paphos

Paphos really is a celebration of history and the present with a pride and joie de vivre that shimmers throughout time. The Akamas Peninsula, a natural area with hidden bays and rugged rock formations, is situated in the north-west of Cyprus. There you can encounter the original lifestyle of the Cyrpiot locals surrounded by a magnificent and varied landscape.Cypriot traditions and culture are well-observed, and many people still live the way their parents and grandparents did years before them. The most important landmark of the city is the castle, which is located directly in the port and near our villas in Paphos. The Roman houses dating back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries, decorated with valuable floor mosaics, are historically very interesting to visit. Just like the royal tombs of the 3rd century BC, where the Cypriot upper class was once buried. These ruins were declared a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.

Experience Paphos

A trip to our villas in Paphos is not complete without visiting the harbour and fishing port with its many tavernas, shops and cafes. Sit and watch the fishing boats go by, enter the castle or explore the coast further with its characteristic bays, cape and small peninsulas, which invite sunbathing and swimming. For an extraordinary experience whilst self-catering in Cyprus, go to Tala monastery in the hills of Paphos and see the cat shelter there if you are an animal lover. Creative people will enjoy the artists' village in Kissonerga, or the many beautifully decorated churches to be found all over this part of the island (Ayia Kyriaki Chrysopolitissa is a must). However, many will argue that the true spirit of Paphos is sat with its inhabitants who are warm, friendly, gregarious and extremely hospitable.

Shopping in Paphos

As a fantastic meeting of old-meets-new, this theme continues for Paphos even when considering shopping. Whether for souvenirs, food or clothing, there is so much to choose from in this Cypriot city. If you would like to investigate the new shopping centre in Paphos, make your way to the heart of the town where you will find the King's Mall with fantastic facilities, including a cinema, eating outlets and clothing stores from Adidas to Zara. If you would like a taste of the slower side of life, visit Paphos Old Town market, which is a magical grotto of traditional wares, handmade leather goods, lace, jewellery, herbs and spices. You are sure to find everything you need in Paphos, and right in the vicitnity of your holiday lettings in Cyprus.

Where to eat whilst self-catering in our villas in Paphos

Cyprus - a veritable Mezze platter of delicious meals lovingly made with local ingredients. In Paphos you must try the plump olives, famous halloumi or feta cheese, extraordinarily fresh fruit and wonderfully hearty meat dishes. Moussaka and fresh seafood adorns Cypriot cuisine, whilst strong and flavourful Cypriot coffee makes a fantastic end to a meal. A family favourite waiting for you to discover is Pastitsio (or Pastichio), a moreish macaroni bake with a layer of ground beef and a creamy topping of bechemel sauce. The kids won't have a problem wolfing down a portion of this Greek classic, and if they do, it will be impossible to refuse a large helping of icecream from a seaside vendor.

Local beaches near our villas in Paphos

The seaside location of Paphos is a strong draw for visitors from all over the world, where clear waters and charming coves entice you in to spend relaxing days in the warm Cypriot climate. There are a variety of beaches on this part of the island, including perhaps the most popular choice - Coral Bay with its wide and sandy stretches and shallow and warm waters ideal for young children. Rent a sunbed and pitch up for the day here or head further north to Agios Georgios if you would prefer to swim somewhere quieter. This small bay is rocky but good for those seeking a relaxing time or for young adventurers wanting to explore the coves and rock pools. We have Cyprus villas right next to this jewel of the Akamas Peninsular and near notable beaches including Lara Bay, Polis Beach and Lakki Beach.
