Encounter Upper Austria’s Cities

Linz is a city of possibilities - a city with changing history and a lot of self-confidence. Stahlstadt is Austria's most important industrial town with 190,000 inhabitants. This industrialisation characterises the entire region. Although if you would like to see Austria's most famous city, we would recommend apartments in Vienna, Linz is also a city with a charming old town and one of the world's most important festivals of computer art - the Ars Electronica. A connection between the ars electronica and the Brucknerfest is the "Linzer Klangwolke", a musical event in the open air where the music lends itself to cymbals mounted in the form of a sound cloud over Linz.

Historical towns and lovely landscapes

Upper Austria is divided into two parts by the Danube flowing from west to east and NOVASOL have lovely Austrian accommodation on both sides. North of the Danube lies the mountain and hill country of the Mühlviertel, while to the south of the region is the Hausruckviertel, Innviertel, and Traunviertel. The town of Steyr is the gateway to the Kalkalpen National Park. The city of Wels was the capital of a whole province in Roman times. Other charming cities and towns in the state of Upper Austria are Gmunden am Traunsee, the Kaiserstadt Bad Ischl, Hallstatt on Lake Hallstatt and, of course, St. Wolfgang am Wolfgangsee.

The Salzkammergut

The Salzkammergut is a region that extends over the federal states of Upper Austria, around our Austrian villas in Salzburg and Styria. It is region with a unique combination of mountains and lakes offering a wealth of leisure opportunities. Bad Ischl with the Kaiservilla has just as much to discover as the villages of Hallstatt, Gmunden, Traun and of course the Wolfgangsee with its famous "White Rössl" and the Schafberg. In the region around the lakes Traunsee, Attersee, Mondsee, Lake Wolfgang, Lake Halltättersee, Lake Fuschl, Lake Irrsee, Lake Grundlsee and Lake Altaussee there is an enormous number of leisure activities and sights to discover.

Sports in Upper Austria

Upper Austria is a sportsman's paradise with a range of activities catered for across the board. This region is home to superb golf courses set amidst mindblowing scenery, where hikers and cyclists also flock to unwind. A selection of lakes in Upper Austria also invite you to take a dip in the warmer months, to try your hand at sailing or take the plunge with diving. The Kalkalpen National Park can be best explored on horseback, whilst The “Pferdeland” in the National Park also offers riding classes if you would like to hone your cowboy skills.

Regional cooking

Upper Austrian cuisine is a traditional and down-to-earth style of food just calling for you to enjoy. Tuck into wholesome soups and stews accompanied by a variety of dumplings, or a side of cabbage and bacon. Round off your meal with a slice of the well-known Linzer Torte. This cake very typical of Upper Austria is made from ground almonds and redcurrant jam. Also from Linz are ‘Linzeraugen’ – soft biscuits also filled with jam. In terms of drinks local to the northern part of Austria, you’d be foolish not to try something from the great range of schnapps and cider produced from fruit grown in this region.
