Spain Canaries Tenerife La Orotava
La Orotava on the island of Tenerife lies in a green and luxuriant valley on the north west side of the island, approximately a quarter of an hour’s drive from the holiday town of Puerto de la Cruz. Here you can slow down your pace and rest both your eyes and ears in the beautiful countryside. La Orotava is one of the most charming towns in Tenerife and a great to stay in villas in the Canaries for an authentic Canarian experience. La Orotava has been home to some of the wealthiest people in Tenerife since the 16th Century and the fertile valley has provided great conditions for growing sugar, vines and bananas yielding great rewards for the landowners.
La Orotava has a lovely old town and its mansions, shops and gardens show its aristocratic heritage. We have some superb villas in Canary islands to rent in La Orotava and there is so much to explore in this stylish town. One of the best places to visit is the Casa de los Balcones, which is an ornate mansion built in the 17th Century and has rooms with beautiful balconies set round splendid inner courtyards. The Iglesia de la Concepcion is a Gothic Church and a beautiful monument. As well as the impressive architecture in the old town, there are botanical gardens to see and relax in such as the Jardines del Marquesado de la Quinta Roja, the Jardin Victoria and the Hiluela del Botanico. All of these gardens have a variety of plants, flowers, birds and butterflies. Book your family villas in Spain and enjoy all that La Orotava has to offer.
The Authentic Tenerife
After all that walking around and sightseeing, there are some elegant restaurants to try, particularly in the Zona Kiu in the Casa de Ponte-Fonte where you can try the local cuisine and excellent local wines and give yourself a break from self-catering Spain, although this is the best way to see La Orotava and its surrounding areas.
In the Orotava mountains there are lots of paths for walking and hiking and it is also possible to reach the National Park of Canadas de Teide. As well as inland excursions, there are 3 lovely sandy beaches in la Orotava which are rarely crowded. The colonial town of La Orotava is one of the best places to stay in villas in Canaries to see the real Tenerife and its culture and architecture as well as a good place to be able to access nice beaches and walks in the National Park.
