Beaches in Lanzarote

Book holiday rentals Lanzarote and choose from the many superb beaches on the island. Even though Lanzarote is a volcanic island, very few of the beaches are black sand and if you drive around the island you can see the variation in the beaches and the landscape. There are almost 100 stretches of sand, said to be some of the best in the Canary Islands. Some of the beaches are very good for swimming and others can be windy and have large waves and therefore better for surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing.

In the south, the main resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Costa Tequise and Playa Blanca have some excellent beaches, which are perfect for tourists. Many are Blue Flag beaches and are well maintained, cleaned regularly and have a good range of facilities. These beaches are very popular and can get quite busy, particularly during the school holidays but there are plenty of other beaches around the island to choose from and avoid the crowds. Enjoy the fantastic range of beaches and stay in one of our villas in Canary Islands.

The Locals Favourite Beaches

Locals would agree that the beachesof Papagayo and Famara are thebest on Lanzarote. Papagayo is a series of stunning caves and has better weather as it is on the southern part of the island and therefore more sheltered. This is a good place for sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling if this is what you enjoy doing on your holiday self catering Spain. Famara is on the Northern part of the island and is a 9 kilometre beach which due to its location on the island does have stronger winds, making it a better beach for kitesurfing and other activities. Cesar Manrique, the artist and architect who had agreat influence on the island of Lanzarote said that this was his favourite part of the island. This area is popular with surfers and Scandinavians, particularly Norwegians.

Beaches Great For Surfing and Families

Surfers have lots of great beaches to choose from such as those in Ozola where waves can be found at beaches such as Caleton Blanco. Just North is Mirador Del Rio, which is one of themost popular beaches for surfers. Families looking for a more suitable beach will enjoy Playa Garita at Arrieta, which has a selection of restaurants and facilities and a great location for a holiday in a villa in Canaries.

The capital of Lanzarote is Arrecife, where half of the islands population lives. There is a superb beach in the centre of the town called Playa Reducto, which is very good for swimming due to the reefs that surround this area of Lanzarote. You can also see the nearby island of Lanzarote from this beach. Book a holiday rental Lanzarote and try all the different beaches for yourself.
