The Algarve

Faro, Algarve

With a holiday home in the Algarve, you can visit Faro, which is the capital in Algarve. It is a historic, as well as a university city, where the nightlife starts at midnight. Nearby Faro is the Vale de Lobo and Quinta do Lago resorts, which are amongst the most prestigious and luxurious in Europe. Visit Loulé with its local markets, or go for a dinner of typical Portuguese cuisine and a glass of “Medronho” while you listen to live jazz in the old city of Silves. Many self catering tourists choose to go for a picnic at the “Pego do Inferno”, a beautiful waterfall not far from Tavira, possibly one of the enticing spots in Europe.

Praia da Marinha, Algarve

The most beautiful beach in Portugal, Praia da Marinha is located in the Algarve in Lagoa and is a must see if you book a holiday home in the Algarve. Surrounded by rock formations and cliffs, is a stretch of beach with the beautiful clear waters common on this coast. It is quite a climb down through dozens of steps, but then you are in a special location. 


The capital of Portugal is located on the Tagus River. This large and fairly populous city has a wealth of historical, cultural and culinary experiences on offer. There are many museums such as the Museum Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, the national museum of tiles Museu Nacional do Azulejo and the largest museum of modern contemporary art in Portugal Museu Berardo Colecção where you can gain an insight into both the old and modern Portuguese culture. There are plenty of churches, monasteries and palaces which make for an interesting historical trip during your stay in your chosen holiday homes in Portugal. Jeronimos Monastery in the Belem district is a monastery belonging to one of the prominent buildings of the city. The Baixa district is known for its square Rossio, and Bairro Alto for its restaurants and nightlife. The Bairro Alto district is thirty meters higher and accessible by the lift Santa Justa designed by Gustave Eiffel.

Costa de Prata

Less than 100 km north of Lisbon you will find one of the most diverse areas in Portugal. Visit the lovely small town of São Pedro, located on the Atlantic Ocean, or go out in the vibrant surfing town of Nazaré, where in January 2013, the highest wave ever occurred. A true surfer’s paradise. Go shopping in the historic town of Leiria. Many people find the Costa de Prata, the most beautiful part of Portugal.


The port city of Porto is known worldwide for its production of fine Port wines in is definitely worth a visit on your self catering holiday. Wines from the neighbourhood Vila Nova de Gaia are famous throughout the world. But Porto certainly has more to offer. For example there is a very famous and historic bookstore named Livraria Lello & Irmão in the centre. When you see the grandiose interior, you won’t believe your own eyes.
