Things to do in Sicily

There are plenty of attractions, activities and historical monuments on the Island of Sicily. Ruins of ancient cities and incredibly beautiful landscapes are characteristic of this holiday destination, and it is all embraced by the wonderful Mediterranean climate. Only when you arrive, will you realise how diverse this island is and how you can spend your holiday there. Almond trees in the Valley of the Temples

There are multiple events to celebrate the day the almond trees burst into bloom which are taking place in the first half of February. In Agrigent these celebrations has become an international event with characteristic folk dances and songs, traditional costumes and firework displays in the town centre. However, Agrigent is most of all famous for its Valley of the Temples (Valli dei Templi).


The beautiful city of Taormina is one of the most popular tourist destinations on Sicily and is favoured by the guests of our villas in Sicily. Multiple events and concerts with local and international artists takes place in the beautiful Greek-Roman theatre Teatro Greco during the summer. The international ‘Taormina Arte Festival’ takes place between June and August, where you can experience a large selection of theatrical performances, concerts and movie premieres.

Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro

In the Trapani province, in the North-West part of Sicily, the wildlife reserve ‘Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro’ is located. This is the first nature reserve on Sicily founded in 1980. The reserve stretches on ca. 1600 ha and is the sanctuary of many, often rare species of birds. At the same time, visitors can enjoy unique views of the Mediterranean Sea. Syracuse was once one of the most powerful and rich metropolis in the Mediterranean Sea area (there were presumably 500,000 citizens living in the city). Even today the 3rd biggest theatre in the ancient times can be visited in Syracuse, where theatre performances and concerts are played in the summer time. In the Old Town there is Parco Archeologico, which is fully preserved since the ancient times.


Etna is a phenomenon for itself as the largest active volcano in Europe, and this is a huge draw for many staying at NOVASOL holiday rentals Sicily. Wonderful spectacles performed by nature itself are common here. The mountain is a natural park, where one can find tracks of varying levels of difficulty. During the winter time, the mountain (ca. 3,400 m) becomes a unique winter sports’ centre with a beautiful view over the sea.
