Thanks to its location near to the sea, Istria is home to a variety of maritime attractions. For example, there are nine lighthouses that can be visited on a boat tour during your Croatia villas holiday. One of which is the lighthouse at Cape Savudrija, the oldest working lighthouse in Croatia. It is 36 metres high and is the most northern lighthouse in Croatia, situated on the northwest tip of the Istrian peninsula. It is thought that the lighthouse was constructed by Count Meternich in 1818, who built the lighthouse for a beautiful, noble woman who he fell in love with at a Viennese Ball. Unfortunately, however, the woman died in the final days of the lighthouse’s construction and the Count refused to step foot in the lighthouse again. There are plenty of other lighthouses to discover during your stay in a Croatia villas. The lighthouse at Cape Zub for example, which is situated on the Lanterna peninsula between Novigrad and Porec. It is located close to several picturesque beaches, including the pretty bays of Lunga and Tarska. Both beaches are particularly family friendly, which ensures that they are a fantastic spot for a cheap holidays Croatia. Alternatively, in western Istria lies the lighthouse of St Nicholas which can be found on the island of St Nicholas. It was built by the Venetians in the fifteenth century and maintained by the Benedictines. Walking holidays and lighthouses

The picturesque Istrian National Park is not only a fantastic location for an active adventure in Istria, but it is also home to one of Istria’s pretty lighthouses. The park can be reached via boat from Fanžana and Pula. During the journey look out for the lighthouse; it is situated at Cape Penda on one of the most southernmost points in the National Park.
