Situated just a few nautical miles from Zadar, and within the Zadar archipelago, Ugljan is a fantastic spot to visit during your Croatia villa holidays. Although the island is just 50km², it is incredibly varied. Much of the island is covered by olive trees, pine trees, flora and fauna, which ensures that it is popular with guests enjoying our dog friendly cottages. Most of the activity is located in the north of the island, with the island’s seven municipalities located on the north-eastern shore. The south-westerly shores, in comparison, are often difficult to reach due to its steep coastline and wide bays.

The town of Ugljan is the largest town on the island and benefits from plenty of sunshine, which ensures it is a fantastic spot for day-trippers staying in our Zadar apartments. The town is home to some of the island’s most idyllic beaches and bays, which attracts visitors from near and far. It is also popular with guests enjoying our cheap family holidays due to the abundance of sports and activities in the area. As an example, the area hosts the SUG Olympics every year, which include lots of competitions and games for the entertainment of locals and visitors alike. During August the town hosts beach games and races including wheelbarrow races, sack races, tug of war and other family-friendly beach games. Unique cottages and a unique culture
Ugljan is home to plenty of culture including the Blue Night folklore festival. The event takes place in June and features folk dancing groups from the Zadar area. Guests from our villas Croatia usually enjoy the traditional songs which are sung deep into the night. Alternatively, for visitors enjoying a Croatian villa holidays during August, why not visit the Čeprljanda Feast. A particular highlight is the ‘Big Game Cooking’ event, which showcases regional dishes such as grilled fish, fried squid and octopus salad. The event also comprises of a boat parade and evening fireworks
Festivals and fireworks
Whether you are staying in one of our Split apartments or villas in Dubrovnik, the island attracts visitors from across Croatia in search of the many cultural festivals and events. The Šug festival, for example, is designed for visitors wishing to purchase local products produced on the island. Another traditional festival is the Assumption, which also takes place in August. The event starts in the late afternoon with a mass and procession through the town. In the evening there are plenty of cultural events and dancing. Be sure not to miss the spectacular fireworks which take place at midnight.
