In the second largest city of the island, Limassol, in Greek Lemesos, is the largest and most important port in the country. At the same time, the city centre is the wine industry. Limassol is situated between two of the most exciting archaeological sites in Cyprus, Amathus in the east and Kourion in the west, built on cliffs with a breathtaking view of the sea. The Limassol region, with the city of the same name, is located in the south of Cyprus and is very welcoming and accessible to tourists. Enjoy an exciting holiday in this interesting region in a Cypriot villa of your choice!
The sun-drenched southern slopes of the unique Troodos mountains form a pleasant green background with their vineyards. There are many dreamy villages known as "Krassochoria" (wine villages). Here, where the traditional type of winegrowing is practiced, you will find another Cyprus, a Cyprus apart from the tourist centres. A rural retreat, a place of peace and tranquility where you can discover and enjoy secluded villages and untouched landscapes all year round. Here you can enjoy quiet surroundings and authentic cultural activities among local people.
Limassol is just the right holiday destination for a varied holiday. The second largest city on the island offers not only sunbathers with their beautiful beaches a place to stay, but also opportunities for culture enthusiasts. You can visit the castle built on the remains of a fortification, the archaeological museum and the old town from your holiday lettings in Cyprus. Limassol is also perfectly located for visiting other notable places on the island such as Larnaca and Paphos, which are both under 50 minutes' drive away.
Limassol or Lemesos offers a large selection of international cuisines from all over the world, although it is advisable to try as much traditional Greek and Cypriot food as you possibly can during your self-catering holiday in Cyprus. Relax in a local tavern and become acquainted with Cypriot food with a ‘meze’ of customary dishes. Enjoy stuffed vine leaves, grilled halloumi cheese, fresh salads, olives, red wine sausages, moussaka or rabbit stew. Being a Mediterranean island, you will of course find a huge range of healthy and flavoursome dishes
Cyprus is not just a sun, sea and sand holiday destination, but promises so much more in terms of culture and nature. Limassol in particular offers wonderful access to some stunning natural areas, including the famous Troodos mountains, which rise 1,952 metres off the ground at their highest point - Mount Olympus. This mountain range is not just for looking at but for exploring and providing some of the best active things to do in Cyprus. Those who enjoy hiking, skiing and cycling amidst outstanding scenery are in luck! As well as this, there is the rocky and steep coast on the south coast that plunges into crystal clear waters, making snorkeling, sailing and fishing also possible.
Limassol is a lovely place to take a Cyprus villa holiday if you enjoy the sunshine without heat becoming too overbearing all year round. Limassol has a hot and dry Mediterranean climate in the summer, whilst winters can be cooler and more changeable in terms of rain. The average minimum temperature for Limasson is 13 degrees, whilst the average high temperature works out to be 25. Of course, this makes Cyprus a top beach location, but also a good place to enjoy a holiday in the off-season if you would like to avoid the summer rush and take advantage of fairly mild weather even in winter.
To the east of Limassol you will find the Governer's Beach with it's white cliffs and dark sand. You can drive there or take the daily bus service from your holiday villas in Cyprus for long days spent enjoying the shallow water and attractive villages local to the beach. A little less well connected but still well worth a visit is Lady's Mile beach, where you can also visit the Akrotiri salt lake in a single trip. Here the beach changes from sand to pebble and in the winter you can see migraotry flamingoes settle on the salt lake. Further south still, you will find Button Beach with its beautiful sand dunes and nearby monastery. We can also recommend Kourion if you would like to visit the nearby archaeological sites, and Pissouri - the most popular beach along this stretch. If its beaches you are after, you may also be initerested in a Cyprus villa holiday in Paphos or Larnaca!
