Croatia villa holidays in Butoniga

Enjoy an unforgettable holiday in a Croatian villa in Butoniga and enjoy the spectacular scenery with rolling hills, verdant landscapes, endless vineyards and small, sleepy villages. Whilst visiting the area – or perhaps staying in NOVASOL’s villas in Croatia – be sure to visit Lake Butoniga. Situated on the river of the same name, the lake was built in 1988 and serves as a dam, regulating water supply for a large part of Istria. Swimming and fishing are not allowed here, except for once a year when an international fresh fishing competition is held here in December.

Villas in Croatia: Walking around Lake Butoniga

Butoniga and the surrounding area has plenty to offer with things to see and do. To reach the lake head along the road to Buzet, which runs along the River Mirna. At the village of Motovun there is a small road which leads to the lake. Guests in our unique cottages in Istria often love to walk around the 73- square metre lake. From here, explore the nearby rivers as they rise in the 400m high mountains. The largest rivers are the Grdoselski Potok, the Butoniga Draguæ and Raèièki Butoniga. The area provides some fabulous walking opportunities for those seeking an active, yet cheap holiday to Croatia.

Croatia villas: Beaches and reservoirs

Although a holiday to Butoniga offers the opportunity to relax amidst beautiful, tranquil surroundings, the area is not suitable for swimming. For guests in our Croatian villas who fancy a swim, it is best that you head to the beautiful beaches of Istria, which are approximately an hour away. Instead the dam is used exclusively for the production of drinking water for cities such as Pazin, Poreè and Rovinj. Over 1000 litres of water are collected here, which comes from both the rivers, as well as rainfall. It is quite fascinating watching the water levels in the lake change – be sure to look out for this during your stay in our villas in Croatia.

What else is there to explore?

If you have found yourself inspired by the fantastic scenery and spectacular surroundings whilst staying at Croatia holiday resorts near Lake Butoniga, be sure to consider some other spectacular areas in Croatia too. It is also home to a collection of picturesque waterfalls.

Visit Croatia’s National Parks
