Praia da Marinha

The most beautiful beach in Portugal, Praia da Marinha is within driving distance from your self catering holiday home. Surrounded by rock formations and cliffs, this stretch of beach has the usual beautiful clear waters which is characteristic for this coastline. It is quite a climb down the stone steps to the beach, but when you get down there, you will quickly realise that you are in a truly special location.

Albufeira

The resort of Albufeira is well known among self catering visitors, especially the famous entertainment area 'The Strip'. The beaches at Praia dos Pescadores, Praia do Tunel, and Fisherman's beach provide a wonderful day by the sea. Not far from Albufeira, you can find Paderne, a castle still brandishing the original ramparts.

Silves

A worthwhile excursion from you self catering holiday home is the city of Silves. The city is dominated by the fortress ‘Castelo dos Mouros’, a must see dating back to the 8th century. You should also visit the ‘Museu Municipal de Arquelógia’, which has artefacts on display dating back to the Stone Age. Every Saturday night in the right season, you can enjoy live jazz on the lovely terrace of the Café Ingles. The cafe is located in the heart of the old city in the shadow of the old gothic cathedral.

Caldas de Monchique

If you book you self catering holiday home near the beautiful mountainous valley of the ‘Serra de Monchique’, you can find the cosy village of Caldas de Monchique with warm spring waters and spa area. The old nearby town of Monchique is also worth a visit.

Lagos

This historic harbour town, with its cosy centre centre and shipyard, is a popular attraction that you can visit from your holiday home. Make sure you visit the natural attractions Ponta da Piedade, Laguna de Alvor and Mata Nacional de Barao de S. João. There are also various forts and castles to visit in this beautiful seaside town. In particular, the fort on the harbour is worth a visit. This is Forta da Ponta da Bandeira, and while it no longer needs to protect the harbour, it provides an insight into the maritime history of Lagos.

Cabo São Vincente

The Portuguese call it 'Fim do Mundo' which means 'The End of the World'. Being near Sagres, you will find yourself on the most south-western point of Europe. Visit the 16th century fortress and experience the force of the ocean. Nearby is the amazing “Costa Vicentina Natural Park” with about 76.000 hectares of land to explore. So if you are a nature lover, make sure you visit it during your self catering holiday.

Vila Real de Santo António

The lighthouse of the town of Vila Real de Santo António is a famous landmark. It is near the vibrant coastal town of Monte Gordo. The large central square of Vila Real de Santo António is surrounded by orange trees and low-rise shops and restaurants. Nearby is a museum, ‘Museu de Manuel Cabanas', showcasing the local artist who is known as the best wood engraver in Portugal.

Alcoutim

Book your self catering holiday home and visit this lovely town, located on the Guadiana River which flows via Vila Real de Santo António into the Atlantic Ocean. The 14th century castle Alcoutim was formerly known for its rich copper and iron mines. Now it's mostly the centre of many types of handicrafts and agriculture.
