Museums, Galleries and Culture

  • Edvard Munch's house where the famous artist lived and worked for a large period of his life.
  • Henie Onstad Art Centre. Sonja Henie, the Norwegian Olympic skater and film star of the 1940s and 1950s, and her husband, Niels Onstad, have collected works of modern art from all over the world. The collection is now to be found in the museum which is beautifully located near the Oslofjord.
  • The Whaling Museum at Sandefjord. The museum hosts a unique exhibition about whaling.
  • Larvik Maritime Museum in the old Customs House from the 18th century presents Larvik's maritime history, e.g. the famous Colin Archer boat designs and Thor Heyerdahl's expeditions.
  • Bærum Verk. A small village once connected to foundry. Today, the houses function as shops, restaurants, handicraft and art galleries and workshop .
  • The castle in Norway's oldest town, Tønsberg. Here you can see ruins from the Middle Ages and an observation tower. The tower is open during the summer.
  • Borre/Midgard History Centre. Midgard History Centre presents the history of the Borre and Vestfold region. Here you find the vast majority of Norwegian burial momorials from the early Iron Age.

  • Castle (Slottsfjell) festival: A pop and rock music festival in Tønsberg which is arranged every year in July.
  • Vestfold festival: Theatre, celebrations, music. Arranged every year in several towns in Vestfold (in June and July).
  • Revue in Tønsberg: Arranged every year in July.

  • Boat trips to Strømstad (Sweden) from Sandefjord. Duration: 2,5 hour each way.

  • Visits to idyllic Svelvik from Hurum or Stavern. The latter is a special art town with many exhibitions.
    • Marin Alpin: A well-known marine and windproof clothing supplier. In the summer, it is possible to attend a big factory sale at the warehouse in Stavern. 2,500 square metres of clothes, electronic items and bed linen are on offer.
    • Giovanni Fashion: Giovanni in Sandefjord is a well-known importer of men's clothing. The warehouse is open twice a year (in January and June) for sales of remainders and samples. Among other things, you can find suits and shirts.
