Villas in Athens

One of the oldest cities in the world, a metropolis with an interesting mix of European culture and the lifestyle of the Balkans awaits you here. Also a port city, where in the district Piraeus big and small ferries, as well as fast catamarans keep a gate to the many holiday islands open. To an island world, which many of us know from the time we were on Interrail.

Serving 11 million people annually, Piraeus is also the main port of the Greek merchant fleet, the largest of its kind. Several shipyards have their home here, and at the same time many other shipping companies with their subsidiaries are represented and call the port with their container ships. Here is done, charged and unloaded, moored and filed for 24 hours and every day.

The harbor is also home to the Maritime Museum, where Greek seafaring is shown from its beginnings until today. Furthermore, there is the large stadium of peace and friendship in the form of a ship and the Trokadero Maritime Center, where z. B. an Attic trireme from the 5th century BC. Chr. Can be seen. The harbor can be reached from Athens on foot via bridges or by metro. However, we recommend the tram. An evening walk can also be very romantic here.

The beaches of Piraeus are often in the hands of youth. Here, bars and discos provide the right mood throughout the night until the morning when the sun starts to shine again in full glory. The party-friendly climate of Greece also ensures that the festivals take place mostly outdoors.

South of the Acropolis, the citizens of Athens cultivate the tomb and a memorial to Gaius Iulius Antiochus Epiphanes Philopappus, who was a Roman senator in the 1st century and benefactor of Athens. The area is one of the few green areas of Athens, nice for walking and with a beautiful view of the Acropolis and the sea. The Athenian citizens use this area to relax and refuel.

Athens has been inhabited for at least 3,000 years, making it one of the oldest cities in the world. Not only that, in 1985 Athens was the very first cultural capital and in 1896 the venue for the first modern Olympiad.
