Villas Croatia I Orebic

Villas Croatia in Southern Dalmatia – Orebic

Take a ferry from the island of Korcula and visit the stunning town of Orebic, located on the Peljesac peninsula. The pretty town, and its picturesque beaches, make for a perfect day trip whether you’re staying in our Croatia accommodation on Korcula or further afield on the Dalmatian mainland. Situated at the foot of the 961 metre high Mt Ilija, the pretty town is well known for its port, which once welcomed sailors from around the world. During the reign of the Habsburgs, the town was home to the Peljesac Navigation Company. Founded in 1865, the shipping company was once considered one of the largest in Southern Europe and comprised 33 ocean liners which sailed around the world. Nowadays, and perhaps whilst staying in one of our many villas in Croatia, you can learn about the history at the town’s Maritime Museum Pomorski Muzej. Here, ship models and artefacts shed an insight into the town’s history. Alternatively, wander around the town and admire the Croatia apartments and homes, and keep your eyes peeled for the homes that used to belong to the ships’ captains.

Croatia accommodation – Captains Houses and Seafaring Traditions

Explore Orebic during your summer holidays and admire the old captains’ houses in the town centre. The town is rich in maritime history and was even named after a family of sea captains. As you can imagine, the captains were well regarded in the town and their wives were recognised by the locals. Consequently they dressed in beautiful maritime dresses, which paid tribute to their husbands at sea. The town’s seafaring tradition is still recognised today – as you will discover during a stay in one of NOVASOL’s villas in Croatia – and the city’s arms pay homage to its history.

Sandy beaches and sea views

The sandy and pebbled beaches are incredibly inviting – especially for those looking for one of NOVASOL’s cheap holidays in Croatia. Simply swim in the sea, sunbathe on the shores and let your gaze wander as you admire the sea views and modern ships which bring tourists to the town daily. After a day spent lounging on the beach, guests in our Croatia apartments often take the opportunity to head two kilometres north of the town to visit the Franciscan monastery which dates back to the 15th Century.

Active holidays in Orebic

Whether you simply want to relax in one of our cottages with hot tubs or are in search of something more active, Orebic offers something for everyone. For those in search of adventure, head to Sveti Ilija to climb the peak. Paragliders head to the area to admire the magnificent scenery from the top of the cliffs. The area is also home of the Nakovana Cave – a site of renowned archaeological interest. The cave was occupied during the Neolithic area and then used as a place of worship for the Illyrians. Although you can’t go into the cave yourself, there are plenty of photographs of the structure found across Orebic, as well as across Dalmatia. Who knows, you may even see one whilst staying in our Split accommodation!

With a range of South Dalmatian accommodation to choose from, whether you choose our Split apartments or opt for a villa in Korcula, the choices are endless. Whatever you choose, be sure to visit Orebic to sample the wine, explore the sites and learn a little more about the town’s fascinating heritage!
